Sienna Maker Jacket Pattern
from $16.00 USD

Sienna is a chic utility jacket inspired by vintage French workwear. Designed for hard-wearing use by makers and artists, it functions as both stylish outerwear and a highly practical layer for use inside the studio.

With a slightly dropped shoulder, Sienna features a crisp notched collar which can be worn buttoned at the neck with an optional snap button. It is unlined and finished with durable seams. Views A & B feature deep hip pockets, a hidden breast pocket and waist-cinching belt with D ring closure that can be worn closed, or open by looping the belt in the opposite direction; View A hits at mid-thigh and View B ends at upper thigh. View C is a short chore jacket with button closure, optional sleeve pockets and a back button placket.

Wonderful

I bought the paper pattern as opposed to the print at home version as I loathe sticking all those squares together.
Pattern arrived quicker than I had expected so that was the first plus .
It consists of the pattern pieces on quality tissue ...clearly marked and a lovely glossy booklet with all the instructions which is just genius ( this is my first closet case pattern so don't know if it's standard ) . Such a simple thing yet it makes it so much easier when working .
The instructions themselves were clear, concise and easy to follow . The illustrations were equally clear .
The process was logical and clear too , step by step just as I would have chosen to do .
I'm a fairly advanced sewer with a lot of years sewing but I felt that even a confident beginner could tackle this successfully .
I made view B and didn't make any adjustments or changes except for making the sleeves an extra 1/4inch shorter ( personal preference) and I did a slight change to how I hemmed the jacket ( also a personal preference)
The jacket was an absolute dream to put together ...the size was true and everything matched up wonderfully . It's obvious that a lot of thought has gone into this design .
The collar , oh my! , I have never used this particular construction method and though collars don't usually cause me much trouble , this way was genius ...almost totally foolproof and the pleasure I felt turning things right way out to see a perfect collar , a complete woo hoo dancing round my sewing room moment .
I used a non stretch denim fabric and I flat felled the majority of the seams so I'm glad to say the inside looks as good as the outside .
I don't think I've made anything that I'm more pleased with than this jacket .
I'm imagining a short sleeved version in a lighter cotton for summer ... In fact with three different options this is a highly customisable pattern , lots of opportunities to design it ' your ' way .
Highly recommend .
I added some fun labels to the sleeve .

Versatile Jacket

I made View C of the Sienna Maker Jacket. It fits well and for the most part the instructions were great. I had a little trouble understanding how to do the placket because 1) I've never done one before and 2) too many "left"s and "right"s in the instructions. However, I just read carefully and pinned the pieces through the series of instructions until I saw how it should all play out. Love the design. It is meant to be primarily a working jacket (made of brushed bull denim) but the placket detail in the back really help it transition to wearing out as well. My lunch buddy thought it was fabulous and couldn't believe I made it. I'm looking forward to making version A soon.

Sienna Maker Jacket

I lived this pattern! I made View C from a corduroy that was 97%cotton/ 3% elastane. The instructions are great, complete, and clear. The jacket os fabulous; my 26 year old outdoor girl (explorer /camper) was really excited to receive it for Christmas. The sleeve pockets and 3 button placket in the back are great designer elements.
The only way to improve this pattern, in my opinion, is to include the pieces for a lining. (I can make those myself, but prefer to spend my time sewing).
I love the pattern and now that my daughter’s jacket is made, I will be making View A or B for myself!
Thank you!
Barbara

Love it!

I’m thrilled w how the (C version) jacket turned out! Made it in an olive stretch twill. I had to add 2” to the sleeves & 3” to the length since I’m 6’. By lengthening the jacket it extended the back placket which I’ll remedy in my next make. Anyway I’’m planning on making all versions sometime next year!!
