My first attempt at sewing jeans (shorts) and thanks to the Morgan pattern it was a success! I used quite a lightweight striped denim. Although the instructions are long they are easy to follow. I very much appreciated the additional information on getting the right fit. It took me a bit of time to get the fit right and I had to make a number of small tweaks but I'm tall and should probably have taken this into consideration earlier in the process. Will definitely use the pattern again, maybe with a zip next time.
My first Closet Core pattern. The instructions are easy to follow and the additional information on the website makes it a breeze to sew up. My jeans are a great fit!
I've been a fan of the Ginger pattern for a long time, but since that pattern requires fabric with a little stretch, I gave Morgan a go in this Bull Denim that I was keen on using. I really like them and as usual the instructions and the fit in top notch. I've made three different already, check my instagram if you want to see them all. https://www.instagram.com/frkwibergab_sewing/
The Morgan jeans were my second to make and I just love them. I’ve made two pairs in non stretch canvas and cord. I only needed a minor adjustment (the fitting guide is awesome) and I’m already planning more. Highly recommend this pattern!
I bought non stretch denim during an overly optimistic episode years ago and then realized making my own jeans was never going to happen. Enter the pandemic, lots of sewing, dwindling stash, that denim was still there. So I decided to try it. HOLY SMOKES! I made my own jeans, and they fit perfectly and I love them! I wear the first pair (lightweight denim) several times a week, and just finished a pair with heavyweight denim that I will wear as the weather cools.
Closet Core creates excellent patterns, and offers lots of help for the tricky part in their sew-a-longs and blog posts. I did not have one misstep along the way. I love their suggestions for embellishment or special touches, I had fun with pocket lining and back pockets.
Next up will probably be Ginger jeans and maybe even the Kelly anorak, 'cause I'm feeling super competent - I made jeans!
I loved the pattern! I had never made jeans before and was a little nervous, but they turned out pretty good. I appreciated all the recommendations for fit issues and fixes. Unfortunately I made my buttonholes too large and put the buttons too far to the left, so the fly looks a little wonky--I may redo it. I cut based on my measurements and it turned out fine, I think I will redo the waistband because it's a little large, I probably should have graded to a smaller size. I'm going to make another pair with a zipper fly, which is not included in the instructions but I think I saw a tutorial for how to do it on the blog. I also want to make the pocket bags longer because my phone doesn't fit entirely in the pockets. So all in all I consider the first pair a pretty wearable muslin!
