I measured myself before choosing a size and came out as an exact 14. I automatically added length to the arms and legs as I'm so used to doing this with other patterns but when I made the garment I ended up chopping it off again. Great instructions. Didn't need to look at the sewalong videos or anything like that. LOVE the finished jumpsuit. Very happy customer!
A very enjoyable sew, and I feel great wearing this boiler suit. I used a coloured denim. I added a bit to the rise in the back but left the bodice length as is.
The style reminds me of the one I had back in 1978, that my mother made me.
Excellent pattern. I had a lot of fun with this make. I initially bought the pattern because I am inspired by its namesake on Instagram, blakandblanca and I wanted to support this inspiration. I didn't intend to make it and kept trying to think of a person to make it for- don't get me wrong! I loved the design but I knew it's just not my style (except for how it looks on the cover model which is so beautiful! I just felt a little curvier than I'd like for the end result potentially). But I recently had a very terrible interaction with the agave in my yard (PSA don't touch it without protective gear) and decided it was the perfect opportunity to have a fun set of coveralls.
I reinforced the lower sleeves with two extra layers- the layer between is 500 denier cordura). I am incredibly excited to have these reinforced lower sleeves hahahahah!! I made long sleeves and legs with tabs for both. I also had fun making them two-tone. Upper is Essex linen, lower is Sarah Watts, Front Yard, Linen/Cotton Canvas.
I was going for a fun garden coverall, but admittedly they're verging on 60s psychedelic ;) whoops... gas anyone?
Thanks for always making such great patterns Closet Core! Forgive my quick pics post making them- I was eager! I'm wearing them over jeans and a pullover, and I made a straight up size 14. If you want to wear these over clothes, I would recommend sizing up in all but your sleeve length and inseam length. But girth and torso, go up. (I didn't but they'll work over a tank top perfectly, and in the heat here, that works!)
One tip- I was having trouble finding zippers for all the pockets and center front that matched since my local shop is geared toward quilters, but in their bag making section I found zipper by the yard which worked wonderfully. I obviously added a few extra zippers on pockets and made them a little longer to hold my phone while I'm in the yard- if you use this option, add a bit of extra room on either end since you'll find it makes the opening a tad smaller. I added fabric tabs to the ends so I could still turn back the edge to topstitch. With premade zips this isn't an issue, but with yardage the coil chain extends to the end.
Cheers! ~Saremy
I've never sewn from a pattern before so I was very tentative about starting in on this but I just made a muslin and so far so good! I love the way it looks and fits, I just need to practice sewing in a straight line and finish the Learn to Sew Clothing! course before I cut into my real fabric. I'm really excited about it!
I loved the look of Blanca but suspected it was more suited to slender types who could carry off a belt. Then I saw a picture of one worn without a belt and started to wonder if it might be for me after all. I made a toile and decided to remove an inch from the bodice length and add it into the pant leg at the hip length adjustment line. I also worried about making it too tight, cut a generous seam allowance on the hip and waist to be sure and ended up having to take 2 inches out of the side seams as I was drowning in fabric! My plan not to have a belt didn’t work out as the blousing above the waist made the back hang in an unflattering lumpy manner. So I went back and added belt loops and bought a discreet belt fastener. I’ve made the belt on the loose side as opposed to cinched in, as I think this is more flattering for my body shape. I also used the tabs intended for the ankle on the sleeves as I had no poppers. I sewed on 2 buttons so the tabs could be buttoned with the sleeves cinched in or loose.
The pattern taped together very well and the instructions were super clear. The top stitching gives a professional look and I’m pleased with my finished product. Yet to wear in public but Hubby says it suits me!!!
I’d say, if in doubt, give it a go.
